A Crime Against Humanity: Split release
11/08/10 || Lord K Philipson
So, this is a split release made up by three bands I pretty much never heard of: Desolatevoid, The Last Van Zant and The Parish. I don’t even know where to start, so bare with me here…
First out is Desolatevoid (you know they are a cool bunch of guys when they put together 2 different words like this – it makes them special and all…). Their quite untight death/grind/rock/crust crap is pretty much just that – crap. Semi-pig vocals are present and the second-rate production doesn’t help matters at all. Shitty solos together with shitty song writing sure will keep this band in the underground forever. But wait, shouldn’t you at least have a few fans if you are supposed to be “underground”? Then I’m not sure they fit in that category coz I can’t imagine many people giving a fuck about this under-produced noise. I have heard rehearsals sound better than this.

The Last Van Zant is up next. While sporting a production on par with Desolatevoid’s “quality”, these guys also come across as a band who shouldn’t be nowhere near a recording studio without going thru a few classes of how to write songs and rehearse first. Absolutely bland supposed-to-be-heavy metal with a shit vocalist and ape-riffs. Not as bad as Desolatevoid, but not much better either.

Last out is The Parish who only got 2 songs (thank fuck) on this split CD. If you thought the first 2 productions from the previous bands were kinda…eh… sucky – there’s a possibility The Parish takes the cake and runs with it. While sporting a Dismember-esque guitar sound, it’s hardly enough to come across as remotely decent. The drums sound absolutely super dry with the ride and hi-hat being completely up-front. The toms sound like wet carpets and the kicks I can not really hear all too well. Their slow, somewhat, death’n‘roll tinged music is also graced with some insanely bad vocals and the tunes as a whole are completely uninteresting.

As with so many other albums… Don’t expect this to hit the Billboard charts any time soon. Why anyone would even release this is beyond me. The music industry is not fair considering how many great bands remain unsigned and out of the radar of getting exposure. I think that’s the millionth time I say that.
